It may not have enough spirit to fight NK. When the US leaves, many young people may refuse to fight NK. Korea will be over. Please stop the Wartime command change if you love Korea. No more b.s about Korea can fight China or Japan. Korea cannot do neither. The Chinese are always thinking long term and after the fall of the regime. What they want is to remain the main entry point. SK troops at the border is less the point that a reunited Korea which becomes a magnet including for the Korean minorities in China.

Re: What does ‘State of War’ even mean? I do happen to be interested in Korean political history, though. And I don't think that historical amnesia, or ignorance, effectively deals with painful historical periods, either. Jinhae could very well establish an anti-Japanese historical museum devoted to the colonial period. They haven't done so because of Korean political divisions over interpretation of the period. So many of the descendants of collaborators have ascended into positions of power in Korea. The way to deal with that historical period has been to largely ignore it.

Re: What does ‘State of War’ even mean? Realize that China doesn't want a unified Korean state with heavy American military presence on it's border and United States also think's for the stability of the region, unification be delayed and that having North Korea around is better for United States to achieve total influence over the region, what better way to shake up your allies by allowing a crazy neighbor to talk smack about nuclear weapons?

If North Korea falls, it will simply be divided again in the same manner over the entire peninsula 60 years ago simply put. China is obviously going to demand that the border buffer be at least half the size of North Korea, and the United States would probably show a gesture by moving it's troops far south or reducing the size signficiantly. In other words, powers greater than both Koreas will once again wrestle for elbow room to exert their influence over the peninsula, and compromise and negotiations between the two countries will clash with Korea's interests.

The only way to escape this cycle of codependence on a larger superpower and the ultimate division of the peninsula as they are willing to compromise to reach mutually agreed conditions, is to begin the war by firing the first shot, and completely destroying them. The only way South Korea will have full control over North Korea is if they fight the war themselves and not get United States involved, especially approaching the Chinese border. 100% the element of surprise will get North Korea destroyed, and the risk of being drawn into the conflict would deter United States and China from interfering in the matter. This is only achievable when Korea is no longer afraid of taking risks.

Re: What does ‘State of War’ even mean?
